Leading of Life of Passion, Hospitality & Heart

Sweet Memories and Early Inspiration
As a child, Mickey spent his summers and holidays on the island of Culebra, off the coast of Puerto Rico, at his aunt and uncle’s hotel. The property included their seafood restaurant, which was an extension of their home, their culture, and their passion.
He vividly remembers the kitchen. The hum of preparation. The smell of fresh fish and lobster caught daily. And one aroma, in particular, that left an indelible impression: the caramelized sugar from their homemade flan.
Mickey’s uncle’s skill went beyond seafood and desserts. He crafted the restaurant’s ceramic plateware himself, firing each piece in ovens until it became a functional work of art. To him, hospitality wasn’t just service. It was creative expression. It was care. It was pride.
Soaking up those heavenly smells, that welcoming island spirit, and that total commitment to the guest experience would quietly influence the course of Mickey’s life and set the foundation for what was to come.

A Leap of Faith That Changed Everything
Mickey’s professional journey began during his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, working as a line cook at one of the busiest restaurants in town. He enjoyed the fast pace, teamwork, and skill needed to perform flawlessly under pressure.
While pursuing a Master of Science in Finance, one phone call suddenly changed everything. A close friend invited him to consider a restaurant management opportunity. Mickey faced a decision: stick with the predictable path or take a leap into the unknown. He chose the leap.
That bold decision was the beginning of his management career. After embracing this new path, he quickly moved into leadership roles—first as a General Manager, then later as a Director of Operations in South Florida. With each new responsibility, Mickey deepened his understanding, learning more about people, team performance, and the true power of genuine hospitality.

Finding His Way to Truluck’s
After several years of experience as a Director of Operations, he was ready for a new challenge. And this time, the call Mickey received felt less like mere coincidence and more like the stars perfectly aligning.
The call came from a former teammate he had once hired as a line cook—now Director of Culinary Operations for Truluck’s—asking if Mickey would a consider a General Manager position in Brickell, Miami. It was an intriguing proposition.
Shortly afterward, another former team member reached out with similar encouragement. Although he wasn’t actively looking for a new role, the timing felt undeniable and the opportunity was too exciting to ignore. The stage was set for Mickey’s move to Truluck’s.
As he met with leadership and toured the restaurant for the first time, something clicked. The values felt aligned. The standards resonated. The commitment to excellence and integrity matched his own philosophy.
Years of preparation had led Mickey to this moment, and he officially signed on to lead Team Miami.

Growing in the Luxury Market
Since joining Truluck’s, Mickey has become deeply familiar with the luxury seafood and fine dining segment. Today, his leadership continues to elevate Truluck’s Miami higher within this top tier of the hospitality industry.
What stands out most is the restaurant’s unwavering commitment to detail, the team-wide dedication to creating extraordinary guest experiences, and the culture of listening—truly listening—to guest feedback, both positive and negative.
At Truluck’s, excellence isn’t assumed; it’s pursued daily. From reservation follow-ups to team coaching, the goal is continual improvement in delivering remarkable hospitality.
People-Centric Leadership Philosophy
Mickey leads with respect, integrity, humility, empathy, and honesty. He deeply believes in coaching and developing others, helping support them both professionally and personally.
Mickey summarizes his philosophy on leadership, “We are in the people business. We need to invest in them. We are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with.”
For Mickey, leadership isn’t about authority. It’s about impact. It’s about making others’ lives easier and more fulfilling. It’s about saying “thank you” and “how can I help?” — and meaning it.

Proud Moments: A Team Victory
While nothing surpasses the birth of his children as his proudest life moments, one professional milestone stands out.
This past year, Team Miami won the Honor Cup for the white wine contest—a first for the location. The team rallied around one another, made a collective commitment to excellence, and together, delivered an unforgettable moment.
For Mickey, it wasn’t just a trophy. It was a shared victory that reaffirmed why he does what he does.

Hosting at Home: Hospitality Never Turns Off
Whether orchestrating service on the restaurant floor or entertaining in his own home, Mickey keeps the same mindset and mission: creating experiences that people remember.
He plans everything from the location, food, beverages, and ambiance with intention. He studies what his guests enjoy. He curates the mood and ensures everyone feels comfortable and cared for. It’s a passion inspired by family and cultivated over years as a hospitality leader—and there’s simply no turning it off.

Off the Clock: Thrill-Seeker with Purpose
When he’s not leading a restaurant, Mickey embraces challenge and adventure.
He is a competitive mountain bike rider who seeks speed, precision performance, and growth. He has competed in races and traveled to destinations like Colorado and Moab, Utah to ride some of the most demanding trails in the world. He also enjoys skiing and the focus, courage, and calculated risk-taking it demands.

Looking Ahead
In the near term, Mickey’s focus is on continuing to grow and coach Team Miami, helping everyone develop as professionals and as people. Long-term, he envisions expanding his leadership within Truluck’s—ultimately serving as a Managing Partner and Regional Director and culminating his hospitality career where his values are most closely aligned.
