TRU Love Story: Celebrating the Love at Truluck’s
This Valentine’s Day, your love story starts at Truluck’s.
The ambiance, the music, the champagne, all coupled with a menu sure to inspire a love affair of epic proportions—and appetites—we’re getting ready for Valentine’s Day all week long at Truluck’s.
Love is in the air, and we certainly feel it.
Take it from Karen and Chris Davis, two beloved employees who fell in love at The Woodlands, Texas, location. Four and a half years later, Chris and Karen are happily married.
Meet Karen and Chris
Karen was a manager at Truluck’s Miami before moving in March 2020 to be part of the team leading the opening of the new Truluck’s location in Washington, D.C. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
As the world began to reopen, Truluck’s Texas locations led the way, welcoming guests back. Karen was asked to head to The Woodlands to assist Operating Partner Chris in getting the restaurant up and running while the D.C. location awaited its launch. On their first meeting, Chris anticipated a routine day of helping Karen get settled into a corporate apartment which ended in them walking her dog around Lake Woodlands by the restaurant.
Fate, however, had other plans. He met his future wife.
“I showed up, and I was struck. She’s beautiful. I thought, ‘I’m in trouble,’” Chris says.
Karen was only supposed to be in Texas for about three months. But her time was serendipitously extended and as the months ticked on, love started to blossom.
“Around month six, we secretly started dating,” Chris says. “The holidays came around, and I took her to my family’s big Christmas party. My mom was like, ‘So, how long have you guys been dating?’ Moms know everything.”
When things got serious, Karen decided to move to Texas permanently. One day Chris got a call from Dave Mattern, managing partner and beverage director at the D.C. location.
“He was like, ‘Man, you know Karen put in her notice, and she’s moving back to Texas? Apparently, she’s got some kind of Texas boyfriend,’” Chris says. “I thought that he was testing me. I was like, ‘Yeah, Dave, that’s me. I’m the boyfriend.’ Dave had no idea!”
Upon their engagement, Sales & Events Manager Amber Scheer, CPCE, eagerly took on wedding planning. A stunning, intimate venue provided the backdrop for an extraordinary evening. Truluck’s culinary artistry, led by Chefs Thomas and Chef Sammy, delighted guests, while team members enthusiastically volunteered to ensure a seamless celebration of Chris and Karen, delivering the finest service and full support of the Truluck’s extended family.
“Karen is the best part of my life. I couldn’t do it without her, she’s so amazing,” Chris says.
